While Ashton Jeanty became a household name this fall, it’s possible that former North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton will be the 1st player at that position off the board at the 2025 NFL Draft.

That’s according to intel from NFL Draft analyst Tony Pauline, who cites conversations with multiple NFL evaluators this week in Indianapolis at the scouting combine. Pauline says “some teams” have Hampton rated as the No. 1 running back in this class coming out of the Combine.

In addition to putting up record-breaking numbers over a 3-year career at UNC, Hampton also had a great showing at the combine. His Relative Athletic Score (RAS) ranked 43rd out of 1,909 running backs at the NFL Combine since 1987. Notably, he also posted the best RAS of any running back at this year’s combine:

Of course, it would still be a pretty big upset for Hampton to go higher than Jeanty in the 2025 NFL Draft. Jeanty was a Heisman Trophy finalist this year and put together one of the best running back seasons in recent memory while leading Boise State to the College Football Playoff.

In Mel Kiper Jr.’s final mock draft before the combine, the veteran ESPN analyst projected Jeanty at No. 6 overall to the Raiders and Hampton at No. 12 overall to the Cowboys.

The 2025 NFL Draft is set for April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
