Florida State was undefeated during the 2023 regular season, winning the ACC title. Still, the Seminoles were left out of the 4-team College Football Playoff.
The Playoff has expanded to 12 teams for the 2024 season, but FSU’s hopes of making the field are already on life support and we haven’t even reached Week 1 yet.
On Saturday afternoon, the Seminoles traveled across the pond to Dublin, Ireland, for a Week 0 matchup against ACC foe Georgia Tech.
The Yellow Jackets took a 21-14 lead on the first play of the 4th quarter, but FSU QB DJ Uiagalelei put together his best drive of the day on the ensuing possession, converting 2 4th downs to lead the Seminoles to the end zone.
With the game tied at 21-21, Haynes King and the Georgia Tech offense went back to work. The Yellow Jackets marched down the field, utilizing their strong running game to get within field-goal range.
King almost lost a fumble on the final Georgia Tech drive. The play took the Yellow Jackets out of field-goal range, but Jamal Haynes had a nice run on 3rd-and-18 to get his squad back in position to make a kick.
Aidan Birr knocked the 40-plus yard field goal through the uprights and it was time to party in Dublin. Georgia Tech scored a massive win over an ACC rival, 24-21.
This is Georgia Tech’s first top-10 win since 2015, when it took down… Florida State. That year’s score was 22-16.
