Opportunity opens for rookie Cam Robinson to start in Jacksonville

Former Alabama standout Cam Robinson may get the opportunity to start at left tackle in Jacksonville as a rookie.
It is not often that a rookie is given the opportunity to protect the QB’s blindside, but it appears Robinson may now be the starting LT for the Jaguars. Branden Albert suddenly announced on Monday that he is retiring after nine seasons in the NFL.
The Jaguars acquired Albert in a trade on March 9, presumably to start at LT. Albert’s retirement has opened the door for Robinson to show what he can do during training camp and this preseason.
Even without Albert’s retirement, Mark Inabinnett of AL.com reports Doug Marrone always viewed Robinson as a LT in his system, either as a starter or reserve.
“Right now, we have him at left tackle. We haven’t talked about (moving Robinson). We have had major discussions of how do we want to get to know what the best five are. We haven’t discussed anything else except left tackle.”
Robinson was a captain for Alabama in 2016 and he started every game of his three-year career in Tuscaloosa at left tackle. He was a unanimous All-American and was the Outland Trophy winner for 2016.
