Otega Oweh lifts No. 17 Kentucky to thrilling 1-point win at Oklahoma

Otega Oweh made sure Kentucky avoided its third instance of back-to-back SEC losses. He led the Wildcats to an 83-82 win over Oklahoma in Norman, scoring the go-ahead basket in the final seconds.

With 20 seconds remaining in the game, Kentucky led 81-80 when Oklahoma’s Jalon Moore went to the free-throw line. Moore made both, giving OU an 82-81 advantage that did not last long. On the UK possession that followed, Oweh powered his way to 2 more points, putting the Cats back up 83-82, the game’s final score.

Oweh was the game’s high scorer with 28 points. He shot 12-of-21 from the field and 3-of-5 at the foul line. He scored 23 of his 28 points in the 2nd half, carrying the Cats in a 40-point half.
Brandon Garrison was the only other Wildcat in double figures with 12 points. Garrison also had 3 of UK’s 4 blocks on the night.
The game saw 8 ties and 9 lead changes, though Kentucky ultimately led for over 25 minutes of game time. Neither team led by double digits during the back-and-forth battle.
For Mark Pope’s team, it’s a bounce-back win after the road loss at Alabama. The Wildcats return home to host No. 1 Auburn.
Oklahoma entered Wednesday’s game projected as an 11-seed in the NCAA Tournament by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi. OU will look to get back on track and improve its Big Dance resume Saturday at Ole Miss.
