The offseason headaches continue for Georgia coach Kirby Smart. Two Bulldogs linebackers, Robert Beal and Brenton Cox, were arrested on Tuesday on charges of possession of marijuana according to Athens-Clarke County records.
The pair was arrested at 3:13 p.m. Tuesday with less than one ounce of marijuana. Cox posted his $1,000 bond at 4:08 p.m. Beal posted $1,000 bond at 4:21 p.m. Cox is considered UGA’s top returning outside linebacker while Beal entered the spring expected to compete for a starting spot. Seth Emmerson reported that neither player was at Tuesday’s practice.
While marijuana possession is not an alarming arrest at any college football program, it does bring the offseason arrest tally up to six for Smart’s squad. Senior WR Tyler Simmons and freshman DB Tyrique Stevenson were arrested for disorderly conduct as the result of a March 24 bar incident. LB Jaden Hunter and S Latavious Brini were also arrested in March.

Georgia was noticeably thinner at outside linebacker during the media viewing period of spring practice. Did not see Robert Beal or Branton Cox, not sure why. Walter Grant, meanwhile, was in a defensive jersey but working with the running backs.
