Pat McAfee had some fun at Nick Saban’s expense during College GameDay on Saturday morning.

This week’s trivia question on GameDay tested the crew: “Who was the last freshman starting quarterback to beat Alabama?”

After a few incorrect guesses, Stanford Steve revealed the answer to be former Auburn and Oregon quarterback Bo Nix. The Tigers won 48-45 at home that day. As of 2024, that’s Auburn’s most recent victory in this series.

McAfee decided to take a friendly jab at Saban after the answer was revealed.

“Bo Nix beat your ass,” he said, much to the delight of Kirk Herbstreit and Rece Davis.

McAfee’s joke may have overstated Nix’s performance a bit, but he did get the win over the Crimson Tide that day. Nix completed 15-of-30 passes for 173 yards and 1 touchdown. He also rushed for 44 yards and another score on the ground.

This wasn’t the only time the Iron Bowl was brought up during GameDay on Saturday. Saban commented that it was easier for his players to get ramped up to play Tennessee than it was Auburn.

This year’s Iron Bowl will take place in Tuscaloosa on Nov. 30. But first, Alabama will face Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday afternoon.
