Former Alabama Crimson Tide star and Denver Broncos rookie CB Patrick Surtain II is starting his NFL career strong. This past Saturday, in the Broncos’ 33-6 victory against the Minnesota Vikings, Surtain accounted for 2 pass breakups and an interception returned for a 30-yard touchdown. Pro Football Focus gave Surtain a 94.8 overall grade in his preseason debut.

The hype for Surtain was huge in Denver when he was selected. After a stellar preseason Week 1 performance, however, there is a belief that Surtain could be an instant impact player for the Broncos when the season starts:

The Broncos picked one of the best defensive backs in the 2021 NFL Draft class with the ninth overall pick. The defense was a concern for the Broncos. Denver ranked 25th in the league in points allowed per game (27.9) this past season. Surtain was the second consecutive former Alabama player to be selected in the first round by the Broncos. Denver selected former Alabama WR Jerry Jeudy with the 15th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

According to Pro Football Focus, Surtain allowed a 43% completion rate last season at Alabama. Surtain is a player that should excite Broncos fans and the team as they continue preparations for the 2021 NFL season.
