Paul Finebaum calls out Billy Napier for ‘simply egregious’ attack on Florida fans

Paul Finebaum is not a fan of any head coach going after fans, and that includes Billy Napier.
Florida’s head coach made the news on Monday for the wrong reasons — after a quote from his press conference following the Gators’ blowout loss to Miami — went viral because it seemed like he took a direct shot at his fans.
After a lengthy explanation telling the media how his team can improve and bounce back from the embarrassing home opener, Napier then made a comment that has only ignited the conversation about him and his future as the Florida head coach.
“If we can focus on those things and not necessarily on what some guy in his basement in rural Central Florida is saying on social media, then we got a chance to get better,” Napier said.
On Tuesday morning, Finebaum joined ESPN’s “Get Up” and was asked about the comments by host Mike Greenberg.

“Simply egregious, Greeny, I mean here’s a guy who is really down to his last breath” Finebaum said. “He’s lost more games in two seasons and one game in the Swamp than Steve Spurrier lost in 12 years and he is going after his own fan base? Those folks who go to WalMart and buy Gators jerseys and beg and plead for tickets to his games? I mean that is one of the most inexcusable shots I have ever seen.”
“And one more thing here, Greeny,” Finebaum added. “I was in Florida and there for the game. They don’t have basements in Florida, it’s too close to the water, so Billy, know your geography my friend!”
In full disclosure, Napier followed up his Monday comment perceived to be aimed at angry fans by taking accountability for the team’s poor performance, noting that he and the coaching staff as well as the entire team deserves criticism at times..
“Sometimes we deserve criticism. I have no excuses,” Napier admitted.
