Paul Finebaum: Dabo Swinney is ‘stubborn and stupid’ for avoiding transfer portal

Paul Finebaum wasn’t holding back on Dabo Swinney in the wake of another poor performance against Kirby Smart and Georgia.

Specifically, the ESPN college football analyst said what fellow analyst Shannon Sharpe said after Saturday’s 34-3 loss to the top-ranked Bulldogs. And that is that Swinney’s 14th-ranked Clemson team severely lacks the talent that could come through the transfer portal to compete with the powerhouse programs who use the portal to their advantage.

Swinney has effectively turned his back on the transfer portal, and for that Finebaum said on Monday morning on ESPN’s ‘Get Up’ that the Tigers coach is “stubborn and stupid.”

“If you don’t use the tools that you have at your disposal, you are dumb in today’s world of college football,” added Finebaum.

“We can’t have a conversation with Dabo Swinney without talking about the past. We are living in the present and moving toward the future. I’m around Clemson fans. I don’t live that far from where Clemson University is, and quite frankly those fans are frustrated, too, because they got used to it. They got used to going to 6 Playoffs and playing for 4 national championships. This is a man that beat Nick Saban twice for the title, but that was a couple years ago.”
