Paul Finebaum has been a part of the SEC for a long time now and has seen many of the best coaches in college football play in the conference.

Many of those coaches started their careers coaching under Nick Saban at Alabama, and Kirby Smart is no different. Smart coached at Alabama with Saban from 2007-2015, starting as the associate head coach and defensive backs coach. After the first year, he was the defensive coordinator for the remainder of his time in Tuscaloosa.

Saban has a way of doing things, and it is no question that Smart stole much of his philosophies away from his former mentor. When watching Smart talk about the game against Texas, Finebaum said that it sounded just like Saban.

“It reminded me of stuff I have heard from Nick Saban,” Finebaum said. “These guys now, they always want to blame someone; it is easier that way. That is how they get their players fired up. You remember Georgia two years ago when they went and won the title, one of the players said that people said they were going to go 7-5. They were the preseason No. 1 team in the country that year.

“That is the new things players and coaches work on. Kirby was just channeling his inner Nick Saban there.”

The Bulldogs will be off this upcoming weekend before playing Florida in the annual rivalry game on November 2.
