As the college football postseason field takes shape, ESPN commentator Paul Finebaum explained where Playoff hopeful teams sit.
“If Georgia and Michigan are 1A and 1B … Ohio State would be 1C,” Finebaum said during the McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning.
Third-ranked Ohio State (8-0) is one of 5 unbeaten Power 5 squads hoping to crack the College Football Playoff pole this week. Finebaum said the Buckeyes’ schedule “does show that they play some quality teams [but] where Michigan has not” this season.
Second-ranked Michigan (8-0) has enjoyed a top spot all season, and things could come down to “The Game” in late November if both teams stay unbeaten.
As for No. 1 Georgia (8-0), the Bulldogs, Florida gave the defending national champions a challenge for one quarter on Saturday. Then, Georgia hit the gas and cruised to a 43-20 win.
“I sat there on Saturday morning trying to make something out of that game, and then, there wasn’t much to make out of it,” Finebaum said. “Because when you consider now that Georgia’s best two wins are against a 3-loss Kentucky and a 3-loss Florida team, what’s to take from that?”
“But I still feel Georgia is a complete team as we do with Michigan,” Finebaum added.
