Paul Finebaum gave his ranking of Saturday’s Iron Bowl for how it will be remembered compared to some of the other great Iron Bowls in history.
It seemed like Auburn was going to steal a win, but a muffed punt and a hail mary later saw Alabama avoid an upset and keep its Playoff hopes alive. For Finebaum, the game was miraculous, but not the most memorable, but its ranking could change depending on how the rest of the season plays out for Alabama.
“I think it depends. If Alabama wins the national championship, then I think this will maybe rocket to at or near the top,” Finebaum said on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning. “I can’t add to the miraculous nature and the improbability.”
For Finebaum, the 2013 Kick Six game is the most memorable because the stakes were higher.
“I still believe the 2013 ending will go down in history as a little bit higher because of the consequences,” Finebaum said. “That was a 1 vs. 4 game. The winner of the game benefited. Had Auburn won this game, which would have been phenomenal, it would have changed the trajectory of the feeling, but they were still a mediocre team and not going anywhere great in the postseason other than the fact that they’re going. “
