Paul Finebaum says Florida State’s CFP hopes are ‘in trouble,’ trolls FSU fans
Florida State couldn’t even get out of August before its College Football Playoff hopes were questioned.
The 10th-ranked Seminoles were taken down by Georgia Tech in Saturday’s season opener in Ireland, falling 24-21 on a last-second field goal after a furious 4th-quarter drive to tie the game. Head coach Mike Norvell is already getting major heat from frustrated Florida State fans, and college football analyst Paul Finebaum didn’t hold back in his take on FSU on ESPN’s Monday morning edition of ‘Get Up.’
“No, they’re not in great shape,” Finebaum said. “But the hyperbole is going to have to pause for a few minutes … because 1 loss does not end your season. It’s a conference loss and that’s the most important thing, because in this new world, the ACC champion would end up getting a bid to the Playoff. That puts (the Seminoles) in a problematic situation.”
Finebaum then pointed to the Noles’ schedule as a big reason why they’re already in danger of not making the Playoff.
“I think really, ultimately, where Florida State is in trouble is their schedule,” he said. “They have Notre Dame later, at play for the at-large bid. They also have Miami and a number of other key games, including Clemson. They’re in trouble. Their fans might not be able to sue their way into the Playoff this year like they tried last year.”
