Paul Mainieri announces South Carolina’s rotation for Clemson series

South Carolina (9-0) and No. 7 Clemson (7-1) are gearing up for this weekend’s highly anticipated rivalry series. On Wednesday, Gamecocks skipper Paul Mainieri set South Carolina’s weekend rotation.
Mainieri is turning to Matthew Becker on Friday in Clemson. Jake McCoy will take the mound on Saturday in Greenville. South Carolina will turn to Dylan Eskew for Sunday’s series finale in Columbia.
Becker, a 6-3, 215-pound left-hander, is in his senior season. This season, he has a 2-0 record with a 1.59 ERA over 11.1 innings pitched. He’s coming off a 2024 season in which he went 5-3 with a 6.50 ERA over 43.2 IP. Becker logged his most work in 2023, tossing 54 IP over 18 appearances (11 starts) with a 4.83 ERA.
After making just 1 start as a freshman, McCoy has already made 2 starts as a sophomore. The 6-1, 185-pound left-hander has a 3.00 ERA over 9 IP with 17 strikeouts and 4 walks. As a freshman, he threw 16 innings over 12 appearances, posting an ERA of 7.88 with 20 strikeouts and 15 walks.
Eskew is back at it after leading South Carolina in ERA last season (4.60) over 62.2 IP. Last season, the right-hander logged 15 starts over 19 appearances. In his first 2 starts this season, he has a 2.57 ERA over 7 IP with 11 strikeouts to 4 walks.
The Clemson series is one of the most anticipated weeks of the South Carolina season. The No. 7 Tigers improved to 7-1 on Tuesday with a 20-7 win in 7 innings over Winthrop.
