ESPN/SEC Network anchor Peter Burns and ESPN/SEC Network analyst Chris Doering engaged in a debate if the Alabama or Auburn football squads will have more passing yards in the 2023 season.
On SiriusXM’s “SEC This Morning,” Burns believes the Tigers will pass more than the Crimson Tide during the upcoming season.
Burns noted some of Auburn’s advantages on offense, including redshirt junior quarterback Payton Thorne passing more, sophomore QB Robby Ashford and his ability to be a dual threat, and the Tigers’ plethora of tall wide receivers on their depth chart.
“Auburn is going to have more passing yards than Alabama.”@PeterBurnsESPN explains why he believes this to be true, while @ChrisDoering is not buying it.

“In a fantasy football aspect, Auburn is going to be down in a bunch of games because I don’t think they’ll have a 9-to-10 win season,” Burns said. “They’re going to have to throw the ball.”
Burns mentioned that on the flip side, he doesn’t think Alabama will “throw as much.”
“Especially when you don’t have Bryce Young,” Burns said.
Doering disagreed with Burns. Doering said the Crimson Tide will focus on short-yards goal situations, improve in 4-minute drills and more.
“But at the end of the day, this is a sport dominated by throwing the football. Alabama is not going to go backwards there,” Doering said.
Doering noted he can see Alabama’s quarterbacks being “able to throw the ball.”
“I like their quarterbacks way better in terms of the collective group,” Doering said.
