On Wednesday, “Outside the Lines” host Bob Ley announced that he would be stepping away from the show in October for a six-month sabbatical.
The 63-year old broadcaster has been the main host for “Outside the Lines” since its creation in 1990, and has won multiple Emmy Awards including the Sports Emmy in 2018 for Outstanding Studio Host.
Here’s what Ley posted on Twitter Wednesday morning:
Beginning Oct. 1 I'll be taking a six-month sabbatical from my @OTLonESPN duties. The idea of stepping back to re-charge is fully 100% mine, and one I've been considering for a while. I truly appreciate the company's understanding and cooperation. -30

Ley joined ESPN in September of 1979 and is the longest-tenured employee with the network. He has covered the biggest stories in sports on the biggest platform and is a fixture in the world of broadcasting.
Ley made sure to mention that he wasn’t being asked to take a break, but made the decision on his own accord. It’s good to know he’s not retiring yet however and that this won’t be the last time we will see him on our TV screens.
