Practice lineup gives indication of how Florida plans to replace Antonio Callaway

Seven Florida players are suspended for the Gators’ Week 1 game against Michigan. Among those suspended is star wide receiver Antonio Callaway.

The junior has been, by far, the Gators’ top threat at receiver for the past two years. Last season, he caught 54 passes for 721 yards, while doubling as a dangerous returner on special teams.

So, will the Gators have any sort of answer in the passing game with Callaway out against the Wolverines?

For now, the answer appears to be sophomore Freddie Swain, according to Edgar Thompson of The Orlando Sentinel.

Swain played in all 13 games last season as a freshman, catching eight passes for a total of 118 yards. Of those eight receptions, two went for touchdowns against Kentucky and Tennessee.

His role could expand quite a bit with the Gators looking for someone to step up at receiver.

Should Swain fail to capitalize on the opportunity at more playing time, Florida does have a stable of talented players to use in an attempt to make up for Callaway’s loss.
