President Donald Trump praises Tommy Tuberville for coaching Patrick Mahomes, who played for Kliff Kingsbury
President Donald Trump’s heart was in the right place, even if his college football knowledge was a little misplaced.
On Wednesday, with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on the doorstep of leading the first Super Bowl 3-peat in NFL history, Trump decided it was time to praise one of Alabama’s senators who had previously coached him. Or so Trump thought that was the case.
Trump had kind words for Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville, who did used to be a head coach in college football at Ole Miss, Auburn, Texas Tech and Cincinnati. Trump said that Tuberville did a wonderful job in coaching Mahomes during his college career at Texas Tech, so he was on the right track when it came to Tuberville and Mahomes, he just had the years mixed up.
You see, Tuberville was the head coach in Lubbock from 2010-12. But Mahomes didn’t arrive there until 2014, and he played for the Red Raiders through the 2016 season before embarking on a legendary career in the NFL. So Tuberville and Mahomes missed each other at Texas Tech by a couple years.
Kliff Kingsbury was the head coach at Texas Tech during the Mahomes years, so he gets the credit for doing such a great job in preparing Mahomes for the NFL.
Of course, social media was all over Trump’s error and had a bit of a field day.
