Quinn Ewers left Saturday’s game against UTSA early in the second quarter with an injury, forcing second-year quarterback Arch Manning into unexpected action for the second-ranked Longhorns.

It’s not immediately clear what Ewers’ situation is, but he walked off the field slowly in the second quarter and went straight to the team’s medical tent on the sideline. Ewers went down without being touched after handing the ball off on a run play.

After spending roughly 15 minutes of real time in the team’s injury tent on the sideline (per ESPN’s broadcast), Ewers left the tent and went directly to the Texas locker room. He again walked gingerly and had a towel draped over his head.

He would eventually return to the sideline in street clothes before halftime.

At the time of his exit, Ewers had completed 14 of his 16 passes for 185 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also had a 7-yard run. He was picked off in the first quarter but had not yet been sacked. UTSA was not credited with a quarterback hurry, either.

Ewers threw a 49-yard pass to tight end Gunnar Helm on his second-to-last snap.

Manning threw a 19-yard touchdown pass on a rollout to DeAndre Moore Jr. on his first play from scrimmage after replacing Ewers.

Ewers entered Saturday’s game with 506 yards and 6 touchdowns through the air in his first 2 games of the season — both Texas wins. He was instrumental in the Longhorns’ win over Michigan last Saturday, completing 24 of his 36 passes for 3 scores.
