Ole Miss got back on track. It better have against Wofford in the only game against a non-Top 25 opponent in September.
The No. 19 Rebels beat Wofford 38-13 on Saturday at the new-look Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
What it means: It means Ole Miss did what it needed to do before SEC games against Alabama next week and the following week against Georgia.
What I liked: The Rebels new bowled-in stadium was the perfect place to bowl over a team they should have. Again, the passing game shined. Nine players caught passes, six of them at least two catches. Damore’ea Stringfellow and Van Jefferson combined for 9 catches for 71 yards. Junior slot receiver Markell Pack showed the difference he can make with 3 grabs for 46 yards and a touchdown.
What I didn’t like: Not much to not like, but allowing 233 rushing yards to Wofford isn’t all that appeasing. The Terriers rushed for 4.1 yards a carry off 57 carries. Also, Ole Miss allowed Wofford to go 2-for-3 on fourth down. That’s not a stat you want to see a lot of against any team.
Who’s the man: Chad Kelly did what he needed to do. He was 20-of-27 for 219 yards and 3 touchdowns. Most importantly, no picks. He spread it around efficiently.
Key play(s): Pack’s touchdown came with 7:11 seconds left in the first quarter. The team needed that to break through in a season already trending with upsets.
What’s next: Ole Miss has Alabama. It’s needless to say anything else.
