The updated Rivals100 list was released Monday as the state championships are being wrapped up and the All-Star season begins.
There was a new No. 1 prospect in the Rivals100 rankings as New Jersey defensive line prospect Rashan Gary took over No. 1 from Ole Miss quarterback commit Shea Patterson.
The SEC has been known for its defensive linemen for many years and there are several SEC programs involved in the recruiting battle for Gary.
Here are a few things you need to know about Rashan Gary:
We have a unanimous decision: With Gary moving to the top spot in Rivals, he now holds the No. 1 slot for Rivals, ESPN.com, 247Sports and Scout.com.
South Carolina has (likely) been eliminated: It’s hard to know if the Gamecocks were even a serious competitor for Gary but after his mom called new coach Will Muschamp a liar it’s pretty certain he won’t be going there.
He’s already visited two SEC schools: Gary took an official visit to Ole Miss on Nov. 21 and an official to Auburn on Nov. 28. His mother said that they were mad at Muschamp and not Auburn so the Tigers are still in the race.
Alabama is trying to get his final official visit: Gary will take his fourth official visit to USC on Jan. 15 and has room for a final visit should he decide to take it. Alabama would like a crack at Gary but Nick Saban’s old nemesis Urban Meyer is working hard to get Gary on campus in Columbus.
Michigan is the favorite: The Wolverines currently hold 68 percent of the predictions on the 247Sports.com crystal ball with Alabama 22%, Auburn 5% and Ohio State and Clemson tied at 2%.
