Razorback returns continue to pile up as senior running back announces plans to come back

Arkansas will be getting one of its most experienced offensive players back for another season.
On Monday, Razorbacks redshirt senior running back/wide receiver T.J. Hammonds announced his decision to return to the team in 2021. Although he’s been at Arkansas for five years, the NCAA is giving all players an extra year of eligibility due to the uncertainty surrounding the 2020 campaign caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hammonds began his career with the Razorbacks as a running back, but he played primarily at wide receiver early in 2020. However, they needed more depth in the backfield, so Hammonds has been back at his former position of late.
This season, Hammonds has rushed for 101 yards on 14 carries, while also hauling in three passes for 63 yards. He has four career touchdowns (two rushing and two receiving), but he hasn’t gotten into the end zone since the 2018 season.
Even though Hammonds hasn’t put up huge numbers during his time at Arkansas, it will give the team some offensive depth for the 2021 season. And he’s flashed his potential during his time with the Razorbacks, so perhaps next season will give him an opportunity to put it all together.
Hammonds isn’t the first Arkansas player to announce his decision to return, as five other seniors will also be back with the Razorbacks next fall.
Arkansas is set to conclude the 2020 season with a matchup against TCU in the Texas Bowl on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
