Rece Davis hints at potential for Vanderbilt to host College GameDay in 2024

Rece Davis dropped a hint on a recent appearance on Next Round Live that he thinks the Vanderbilt Commodores could be a candidate to host College GameDay in Week 9.

That’s something that would have sounded outlandish in recent years past, but Clark Lea’s team has arguably been one of the best in the SEC this season. With Vanderbilt set to host Texas in Week 9, Nashville is a possibility for GameDay that week.

“I would say it’s on the list,” Davis said. “It’s certainly a week that would open that door. We’ve looked over a couple of things. Not to give away any secrets, but I think the easy one would be Notre Dame and Navy. But that’s not on campus and historically, we would much prefer to be on campus.

“I wouldn’t phrase it as a ‘lock’ by any stretch of the imagination. But certainly I would put it in the category of ‘under evaluation.'”

Vanderbilt has gained a new type of recognition since the Commodores defeated the formerly No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, 40-35 earlier in the season.

Some were skeptical that the team would be able to maintain the success after that down the stretch, but they built upon the foundation they had set when they defeated the Kentucky Wildcats, 20-13 last week.

Vanderbilt is a significant favorite against Ball State this weekend.

College GameDay has been to Nashville just once before — back in 2008. GameDay was on campus for a top-25 matchup between Vanderbilt and Auburn on Oct. 4, 2008. The Commodores prevailed 14-13.
