Here’s a player from each SEC school who is poised to write his name into his team’s record book. We’ll endeavor to point out the next target on the rise up his school’s rankings, so that you can spot potential record book climbs as they approach.
Alabama
DE Jonathan Allen, who had two sacks in Week 1, moved into 7th on the Alabama sack leader list with 20.0 sacks. On his next sack, he will either tie or pass Antwan Odom (20.5 sacks) for 6th place.
Arkansas
DE Deatrich Wise Jr. moved into a tie for 13th on the career Arkansas sack list with 13.5 sacks. He is 2.5 sacks out of the Razorbacks’ top 10.
Auburn
With two made field goals, K Daniel Carlson moved to 5th on Auburn’s career made field goals list with 43, passing Al Del Greco. Next up are Win Lyle and Damon Duval in a 3rd-place tie with 45 field goals made. Carlson is also increased his career field goal percentage to 81.1 percent, bettering his all-time lead in that category over Auburn’s second-most accurate kicker, Scott Etheridge at 79.1 percent.
Florida
CB Jalen “Teez” Tabor will look to move up Florida’s pass breakups list in his first action of 2016. With 22 passes broken up in his first two seasons, Tabor should soon move into the Gators’ top 10. Currently tied for 9th are Janoris Jenkins and Gus Scott with 25 each.
Georgia
Despite amassing 222 rushing yards in Week 1, RB Nick Chubb didn’t budge from 9th on the Bulldogs’ career rushing list. He should move up this week, though, as his total of 2,516 places him just 65 yards behind Kevin McLee in 8th, 130 yards behind Thomas Brown in 7th and 152 yards behind Rodney Hampton in 6th.
Kentucky
K Austin MacGinnis moved into 8th place on the Kentucky career scoring list with 170 career points. He is 4 points behind the 7th-placed Wildcat, K Craig McIntosh. MacGinnis also remained tied for 5th in field goals made with 34.
LSU
As was otherwise chronicled on the site, Leonard Fournette surpassed the 3,000 rushing yards barrier for his career, holding onto 4th on the Tigers’ career rushing list with 3,125 yards. What might not be noticed is that he’s a good way from moving up — 910 yards behind Charles Alexander in 3rd. His 32 rushing touchdowns tied Charles Scott for 4th on that list behind the same three backs (Kevin Faulk, Dalton Hilliard and Alexander) who are ahead of him in rushing yards.
Mississippi
Chad Kelly held onto 9th in the Ole Miss passing yardage rankings (4,355) and is gaining on the 8th-place holder, some fellow named Archie. Kelly is 398 yards behind the senior Manning. He also overtook Manning and two other QBs for sole possession of 5th in passing touchdowns with 34. Next on that list is 4th-place holder Romaro Miller, who had 43.
Mississippi State
WR Fred Ross moved into a 5th-place tie for the Bulldogs’ career leader in catches (133) last week. With six more catches, Ross will tie 4th-place receiver Justin Jenkins. Ross is also 9th in receiving yards (1,645, 79 yards away from 8th), and tied for 10th in touchdowns with 10.
Missouri
Senior linebacker Michael Scherer is moving up the Mizzou career tackles list. With 10 tackles last week, he is at 233 for his career, just 50 tackles out of the team’s top 20. If Scherer can replicate his 114 tackles of 2014, he’d end up in 11th place all-time.
South Carolina
With two field goals (including a career-long 55-yarder) and an extra point, senior K Elliott Fry strengthened his grasp on 2nd place in the Gamecocks’ career scoring list. Fry now has 296 career points, 2nd only to kicker Collin Mackie’s 330 points. Fry is also 2nd in field goals made (55, behind Mackie’s 72), and tied for 2nd on longest field goal made with Ryan Succop, trailing only Mark Fleetwood, who hit a 58-yarder in 1982 under much more advantageous kicking rules.
Tennessee
QB Josh Dobbs passed Jeff Francis and moved into 6th on UT’s career offensive yardage rankings with 6,143 yards. He is 284 yards behind Andy Kelly for 5th place. Dobbs is also 50 yards behind Jimmy Streater to become the leading QB rusher in UT history.
Texas A&M
Big-play WR Josh Reynolds is 6th on the Aggies’ receiving yardage list with 1,827 yards, 412 yards behind 5th-place leader Uzoma Nwachukwu. He also moved into a tie with Nwachukwu and Bob Long for third in receiving touchdowns with 19, five scores behind 2nd-place target Ryan Swope.
Vanderbilt
Junior RB Ralph Webb climbed to 5th on the Vandy career rushing yardage chart with 2,156 career yards. Webb is just 47 yards behind Jamie O’Rourke in 4th place and is 988 yards away from becoming Vandy’s all-time leading rusher.
