Georgia coach Kirby Smart must be a happy man.

The new Bulldogs head man pushed really hard for a strong attendance number at this year’s spring game with a “#93Strong” campaign, and Georgia fans answered his call on Saturday afternoon.

With a reported crowd of exactly 93,000, the Bulldogs faithful not only filled Sanford Stadium, they broke an SEC spring game attendance record.

According to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, the previous SEC record for spring game attendance was 92,310 at Alabama’s spring game in 2011.

He reports that the 46,815 at last year’s Georgia spring game was the previous school record for spring game attendance.

Smart said he was touched by the turn out, which nearly doubled the school’s previous high.

“I tell you what, for the fan base to come out to support our program and to support our kids the way they did, it touches me in my heart and makes a special moment.”

Bulldogs fans turned out to see both their new head coach and five-star QB Jacob Eason, who arrived on campus in January.

A free pregame concert by rapper Ludacris probably didn’t hurt things either.
