Report: Crimson Tide kicker Adam Griffith’s back injury a stress fracture
According to AL.com, University of Alabama sophomore kicker Adam Griffith’s back injury has been a painful stress fracture in addition to bask spasms.
Griffith described the pain as “like somebody is stabbing me in the back,” he said during the Sugar Bowl’s media day, when all players are made available to reporters.
“I don’t really care about the pain, I can more about it affects my swing, hurts my form, kicking-wise,” he said Tuesday. “So I can’t follow through all the way. You just have to play through it, you know?”
The first indication that something was wrong came before the Texas A&M game on Oct. 18, when trainers were keeping a close eye on on him while warming up. Griffith said that was roughly two weeks after the pain got bad, just before the Ole Miss loss when he missed 51- and 46-yard attempts.
Nick Saban first mentioned to reporters that Griffith had an injury on Oct. 28.
Griffith started the season making his first seven field goals, but went 5-for-11 to close the season. Alabama rested him during the Western Carolina game, when reserve Gunnar Raborn made 2 of 3 attempts, and had punter JK Scott handle kickoffs.
