Mel Tucker is making sure his first Colorado staff has a distinct Georgia influence.

BuffZone.com reported Friday that Tucker has lured another of his former coworkers to Boulder by hiring Travares Tillman as defensive backs coach. Tillman — who played safety for four NFL teams from 2000-07 — was a defensive quality control coach under Tucker, who served as Georgia’s defensive coordinator for the last three years.

Tillman joins offensive coordinator Jay Johnson and defensive coordinator Tyson Summers, who were also quality control coaches in Athens, as former Bulldogs assistants on Tucker’s staff.

Fortunately for Georgia, Tillman will reportedly continue coaching defensive backs through the Sugar Bowl. The No. 5 Bulldogs (11-2) will face No. 15 Texas (9-4) at 8:45 p.m. ET on Jan. 1 in New Orleans, after which Georgia coach Kirby Smart will have another vacancy on his staff to fill.
