According to al.com, Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn expects to have a new defensive coordinator by the weekend.
In the meantime, the defense is being led by interim defensive coordinator Lance Thompson. Thompson is in his first year at Auburn as the linebackers coach, after leaving the Crimson Tide early this year.
Thompson will coach the Tigers in the Birmingham Bowl Wednesday against Memphis, and Malzahn feels he is doing well, but the players are still getting used to Will Muschamp’s absence since he accepted the head coaching position at South Carolina on Dec. 6.
“We just have to adjust to not having Coach Champ out there, hearing his voice out there and stuff like that,” Tiger LB Justin Garrett said. “But we’re still getting after it every day at practice and doing the same drills and stuff like that.”
