Auburn’s Carl Lawson is off his crutches, and Tigers defensive coordinator Will Muschamp believes the sophomore defensive lineman will return to action this season.
“He’s on schedule to come back — not this week — but he’s a guy that they’ve had on the field,” Muschamp told al.com. “Not practicing at all, but running and doing a lot of things they’re doing with our staff. I believe he met with Dr. (James) Andrews today, so we’ll continue to move forward with his situation.
“They haven’t told me (a date) specifically, but we certainly expect him back, unless we have some sort of setback. That’s why I don’t want to come out and say a date… I think we’re dealing with a situation that will be resolved soon.”
Lawson missed the entire 2014 season while rehabilitating a torn ACL. Lawson made a full recovery from that injury, but suffered a hip injury in the season opener against Louisville, and hasn’t played since then.
Lawson traveled with the Tigers to Kentucky last Thursday.
“He brings energy,” said fellow defensive lineman DaVonte Lambert. “He also talks to us about pass rush moves as well and what he sees out there. He gives us tips when we come to the sideline. It was a big difference. With Carl, he just knows what to say, when to say and he’s just giving us tips, especially to Byron (Cowart) as well to help him build his confidence. It just helps the whole D-line as well.”
