Former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron started training camp in a battle for starting the quarterback role in Buffalo against Josh Allen and Nathan Peterman. He didn’t win it and now he’s on his way out of town.

Thursday night, McCarron put on a show and helped lead Buffalo back to victory from 24 points down, but it wasn’t enough to persuade the team to keep him on the roster.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported Saturday afternoon that he had been traded to the Raiders.

The move comes as somewhat of a surprise since John Wawrow of the Associated Press reported earlier Saturday that McCarron would stay on the team.

He didn’t throw a touchdown in any preseason game, completing 40 of 66 passes for 440 yards. McCarron backed up Andy Dalton in Cincinnati for the previous four seasons and has only started three games in his career.
