After beginning the 2016 season as the starting placekicker, William Ham has decided to leave the football team.

A report from Dawg Nation detailed Ham’s plan to leave the squad in order to become a full-time student. As a walk-on, Ham’s departure will have no bearing on the scholarship numbers for head coach Kirby Smart.

Ham went 3-of-7 before being lifted for Rodrigo Blankenship. Blankenship then proceeded to finish the year 14-of-18, which effectively cemented the job for Blankenship in 2017.

Ham spoke about his choice to focus solely on his studies:

“I’m moving on from football. That’s all set in stone with the coaches. I’ve got other opportunities down the road academically with some hobbies of mine that I’m willing to pursue.”
