Georgia QB JT Daniels not expected to start against UAB, per report

Georgia quarterback JT Daniels will reportedly not start the game against UAB on Saturday, according to reporting by Seth Emerson of The Athletic.
After Tuesday’s practice, Kirby Smart named Carson Back the backup quarterback. In his report, Emerson relays that Beck’s personal QB coach, Denny Thompson, told Jacksonville radio station AM-1010 Friday morning that Beck is likely to start against UAB. Later on Friday, however, Emerson’s source said that “things were trending toward” Stetson Bennett getting the start.
A senior, Bennett started 5 of 10 games for Smart’s squad last season. He finished the 2020 season as the Bulldogs’ top passer by attempts & completions, completing 86-of-155 passes (56%) for 1179 yards and 8 TDs.
Beck was a 4-star recruit in the class of 2020. He made his first collegiate appearance in UGA’s win over Mizzou last season. Beck completed 22-of-31 passes for 236 yards and a pair of TDs in the G-Day spring game.
It was reported Wednesday that Daniels is dealing with an oblique injury. Emerson’s report notes that Daniels could still play and possibly even start. Emerson adds that Daniels practiced on Wednesday, sharing time with Beck.
