Report: John Chavis warned Les Miles about potentially having same fate as Phillip Fulmer
The kerfuffle emanating from the messy divorce between LSU and current Texas A&M defensive coordinator John Chavis continues to rear its ugly head.
Via a report from Ross Dellenger of The Advocate, Chavis warned current LSU head man Les Miles about a provision in his contract — dubbed the ‘Les Miles Clause’ — which could ultimately lead to his dismissal as the head football coach.
This provision (addressed in a deposition recently made public) states essentially the assistant coaches under Miles will be tied to his job security. If Miles were to be relieved of his duties, or leave of his own volition, none of the staff members’ contracts would be fully honored.
Chavis deemed this situation akin to former Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer. A similar term to the ‘Les Miles Clause’ appeared in Chavis’s contract whilst he was an assistant under Fulmer. The longtime UT head coach was somewhat surprisingly jettisoned in 2008, and Chavis intimated to Miles that a similar situation may occur.
