A group of Louisiana legislators allegedly threatened to strip funding for LSU if any of the Tigers’ players kneeled during the national anthem this past football season.

LSU players aren’t traditionally present on the field during the national anthem, however, according to a report from Elizabeth Crisp of The Advocate.

The alleged stripping of the funding, Crisp pointed out, was detailed in a Washington Post column on Friday titled, “Why do so many Republicans hate college?”

The full story above is certainly worth a read.

An LSU spokesman reportedly said the threat to strip funding came in the form of a phone call. However, he wouldn’t name the legislators that were allegedly involved.

LSU President F. King Alexander described the alleged threat in the Washington Post column.

The threat to pull funding was apparently withdrawn after Alexander reminded the lawmakers that LSU players traditionally remain in the locker room during the anthem.
