Camps are often a fun experience for high school recruits, as they receive nice gear, expert coaching, and national attention. For one SEC target, however, Nike’s The Opening was anything but a pleasant experience.
Greg Emerson, a Tennessee DT product who has been heavily recruited by several SEC schools, hit the turf today and was quickly surrounded by camp medical staff. Those on the scene reported that Emerson dislocated his ankle, and with the football season only weeks away, that news has an extra dose of untimeliness.

Emerson is a 4-star prospect according to 247Sports Composite Ratings, who ranks inside the top 100 at No. 76 overall, as well as the No. 2 prospect in the state of Tennessee. In addition to the the in-state Vols, Alabama, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, Kentucky, and South Carolina have offered him.
The Jackson, Tennessee, native is a talented prospect, who already possesses SEC size at 6-foot-3 and nearly 300 pounds. Yes, he’s that massive and he’s just entering his senior year. Understandably, this size, as well as his strength, make him a mauler at the high school level.
Hopefully, Emerson can make a full recovery and this injury will not affect him during his senior year.
