Mississippi State is nearing an agreement with former NFL kicker Chris Boniol, a source tells FootballScoop.com.
The Bulldogs have offered Boniol the opportunity to join the program as the special teams quality control.
Boniol spent last season as the special teams coordinator at Louisiana College after serving as the assistant special teams coach with the Oakland Raiders. Prior to that, he was with the Dallas Cowboys for four seasons in the same capacity from 2010-13.
Boniol played with three different franchises — the Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears — during his six-year NFL career. He made a league-best 96.4 percent of his field goal attempts in 1995 with the Cowboys.
