Tom Herman has some big boots to fill.
On Saturday, the Houston head coach was hired to the same position at Texas. He will now command the flagship program within the state — and one with immense expectations.
As confirmed by the university, Herman will be paid handsomely for his services:
Texas source confirms Herman will receive a 5-year deal for more than $5 million a year with escalators to over $6M in final year of deal.

This is a potentially great hire by the Texas brass. Herman is an innovative mind, and has demonstrated a willingness to coach with aggressiveness.
During his time at Houston, he’s built great relationships across the state with high school programs. Couple that with the fact he’s a terrific recruiter, and Texas should absolutely clean up within the state.
There’s also a ton of young talent existing on this current roster. With a new voice in charge, there’s no telling how good Texas can be next year.
