The best case scenario for former LSU quarterback Danny Etling this season was going to be a chance to learn under one of the best NFL quarterbacks of all time in Tom Brady.
Now it appears that chance is over with New England deciding that backup Brian Hoyer would be sufficient.
Etling’s performance in a 17-12 win over the Giants Thursday night wasn’t enough even if he had an 86-yard touchdown run with four minutes left to seal the win.
Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal reported Saturday afternoon that Etling has been cut.

Etling was the Patriots’ 7th round choice during the NFL Draft back in April. They were clearly taking a chance because Etling didn’t play the week prior against the Panthers and only had 19 snaps in the first two games.
