It has been a day of crazy coaching rumors in the SEC, as Sunday has seen drama surrounding Greg Schiano at Tennessee, Florida hiring Dan Mullen and Texas A&M firing Kevin Sumlin.

However, down in Oxford, the Ole Miss Rebels put the finishing touches on a rather simple coaching search, hiring interim coach Matt Luke to the full-time position.

According to a report from Neal McCready, the Rebels are prepared to make Luke, who is coming off a huge win in the Egg Bowl, the permanent head coach:

Luke led the Rebels to a surprising 6-6 record this year, ending with an upset of rival Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl on Thursday night.

The Rebels are serving a self-imposed one-year bowl ban, so they won’t be going to postseason play this year, and star QB Shea Patterson went down with a season-ending injury earlier this year, so Luke’s coaching performance was especially impressive.

Whether or not the Rebels face more NCAA penalties remains to be seen, but it seems as if Luke is a good fit for Ole Miss at this point in time.
