Published:
Former Alabama TE Michael Williams was released by the Patriots on Friday, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.
Williams was originally drafted in the 7th round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, but he ended up breaking his hand during the preseason that year and was placed on injured reserve. Oddly, after the Lions drafted Eric Ebron the next year, Williams was moved to offensive tackle.
The Lions traded Williams to the Patriots before the 2015 season, and he returned to tight end. He caught three passes for 26 yards that season. Williams tore his ACL last season.

The 6-foot-6, 304-pound tight end finished his Alabama career with 51 catches for 503 yards and seven touchdowns. He was instrumental in the Tide’s dominant running game during his career.
