The turnover among Tennessee’s leadership continues as the school has reportedly fired chancellor Beverly Davenport. She was hired in February of 2017.
This news comes via Jimmy Hyams of WNML in Knoxville.
Before being named chancellor, Davenport served as interim president of the school. Prior to landing in Knoxville, Davenport was senior vice president and provost at the University of Cincinnati. Davenport was a central figure in the hiring of John Currie over Phillip Fulmer. Of course, Fulmer later replaced Currie following the tumultuous coaching search last season.
BREAKING NEWS: Sources: UT chancellor Beverly Davenport has been fired by Dr. Joe DiPietro. She was hired Dec. 15, effective Feb. 15. She made the controversial hire of John Currie as athletic director, then fired him Dec. 1 and hired Phillip
Fulmer as AD.— Jimmy Hyams (@JimmyHyams) May 2, 2018
This observation from ESPN college football writer Chris Low pretty much says it all about the massive amount of turnover from the leadership positions in Knoxville over the last 10 years:
I will give you one better: Over the last decade, Tennessee has had 16 different presidents/chancellors/athletic directors/head football coaches. https://t.co/CF8yhSu4Js
