For LSU fans hoping the university will hire Tom Herman as its next head coach, things could get difficult. It’s long been assumed that Herman, who is considered by many as the top young coaching candidate in college football, would favor the Texas coaching job if it became available.
According to an ESPN report, numerous boosters are applying “extreme pressure” to fire current head coach Charlie Strong and replace him with Herman with the coach coming off a huge 36-10 upset of No. 5 Louisville on Thursday.
Many anticipate Herman will leave Houston after two stellar seasons for a bigger job after the program failed to make a jump to the Big 12. That includes LSU among several other major programs likely to be searching for new coaches this offseason.
However, if the report is true, LSU will lose out on arguably its best potential coaching candidate should it decide not to retain interim coach Ed Orgeron.
