Report: Texas A&M insider says Kevin Sumlin will be next Arizona State head coach
By Adam Spencer
Published:
Texas A&M is expected to fire coach Kevin Sumlin either Sunday or in the days following, but no news has broken on that front yet.
However, Sumlin could already have his next job lined up. According to Texas A&M insider Billy Liucci, Sumlin is being heavily linked to the recently opened Arizona State job.
Arizona State fired coach Todd Graham on Sunday, and Liucci believes Sumlin could be hired there very soon:
Hearing that Kevin Sumlin will be the next Arizona State head coach. Would be surprised if a deal isn't done in very short order.

First, of course, the Aggies need to make a move, but Sumlin-to-Arizona State is already gaining a lot of momentum.
Texas A&M’s rumored top choice to replace Sumlin would be Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher, but the school won’t be able to make anything official on that front until Sumlin is actually fired.
Could this be a graceful way for the Aggies to handle Sumlin’s exit? Allowing either Sumlin or Arizona State to announce that he’s been hired there would be a classy gesture from Texas A&M to Sumlin.
That would be in stark contrast to how Arkansas handled the Bret Bielema firing, canning him before he even got off the field after Friday’s loss to Mizzou.
Sports Illustrated’s Bruce Feldman has a contrary report, however.
Am told the speculation about Kevin Sumlin to #ASU being a done deal is completely false. Source has told me there has been no contact between ASU & Sumlin or anyone who represents him.
