Report: UT chancellor Beverly Davenport didn’t sign memorandum of understanding with Greg Schiano

Apparently University of Tennessee chancellor Beverly Davenport did not sign off on Greg Schiano to be the Volunteers’ next head football coach.
That’s what a report from the Chattanooga Times Free Press indicated on Monday.
The report notes that Davenport — unlike athletic director John Currie — did not sign a memorandum of understanding with Schiano.
Chancellor’s office spokesman Ryan Robinson reportedly confirmed that to the Times Free Press on Monday.
Tennessee backed away from a deal that would have made Schiano the next head coach of the Vols after intense backlash and protests erupted on Sunday.
The vast majority of Tennessee fans rejected the potential hire because of Schiano’s alleged connection to the Jerry Sandusky child abuse scandal that took place at Penn State.
“Yahoo! Sports reported Sunday that Tennessee athletic director John Currie and Schiano signed a memorandum,” the Times Free Press article noted. “Shortly thereafter, Sports Illustrated published a legal analysis explaining that if all the necessary parties had signed the memorandum, Schiano could sue the university.”
Luckily for Tennessee fans, Ms. Davenport was apparently not on board. And without her signature, any pursuit of litigation by Schiano likely would be a waste of his time.
