Todd Gurley is looking to return to form following a disappointing sophomore season with the Rams.

The former standout Georgia back burst onto the NFL scene with 1,106 rushing yards and 10 TD’s in 13 games as an NFL rookie in 2015. His performance and strong recovery from a knee injury that ended his collegiate career led many to expect a strong second season.

Unfortunately, Gurley never seemed to get on track in 2016 and finished with 885 rushing yards and six TD’s with just 3.2 YPC in 16 games.

First-year Rams coach Sean McVay sees a different Gurley in training camp this season according to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.

“He did a great job of getting it out into the open field,” McVay said, “and there was a couple where he’s reading it one gap at a time on some of the schemes we have, and you can feel his speed once he gets to the corner. He’s a guy that has been motivated and has been a standout throughout the offseason program, and it’s been the same throughout camp. We’re expecting big things from Todd.”

Gurley appeared in 30 games during his career in Athens. He ran for 3,285 yards and 36 touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Gurley is currently ranked third on UGA’s all-time rushing list behind Herschel Walker and Nick Chubb.
