It’s a busy day for the Tennessee record books. The top of the 5th inning in Knoxville was particularly eventful regarding the UT career home run record.

Luc Lipcius led off the inning with a solo home run. It was home run No. 38 of his career, tying him with teammate Evan Russell and Vol great Todd Helton for most by a UT player.

Later in the inning, Russell became the sole record-holder, blasting No. 39.

Lipcius, however, wasn’t done. He hit his second home run of the inning, a 3-run jack, to tie Russell at 39.

It was an 8-run, 4-homer inning for the Vols to extend their lead to Notre Dame to 9-0 in Game 2 of the Knoxville Super Regional. Jordan Beck was responsible for the other homer.

It looks like there will be a Game 3 for a spot in the College World Series. UT leads 9-1 in the 5th inning. The game is airing on ESPN.
