Louisiana-Monroe defeated Troy 29-16 at home on Saturday.
Concern, though, shifted immediately to the health and well-being of quarterback Rhett Rodriguez following the game. The son of Warhawks offensive coordinator and former West Virginia, Michigan and Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez is currently in the ICU after suffering a lung injury.
Rich Rodriguez shared the news on Twitter on Sunday afternoon.
Our family would like to thank everyone who has reached out with their thoughts and prayers for Rhett, as he is currently in the ICU at the hospital because of a lung injury from last night’s game against Troy.

Rhett Rodriguez spent 4 seasons with Arizona, playing under his father as a freshman in 2017 and remaining with the Wildcats following Rich Rodriguez’s firing after that season. He opted to transfer to Louisiana-Monroe prior to the 2021 campaign as Rich Rodriguez was named its associate head coach and offensive coordinator after serving as the offensive coordinator at Ole Miss in 2019.
Through 3 games with the Warhawks, Rhett Rodriguez was 35-of-62 for 337 yards and a touchdown. He completed 10 of his 16 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown against the Trojans on Saturday.
