Pitino has been out of work since October 2017, when Louisville fired him over the his program’s alleged involvement in the pay-for-play scandal that has pervaded college football over the past few years. The longtime Cardinals coach has maintained since his ouster that he intended to get back in the profession, particularly in the NBA.
But it appears Pitino will have to take an overseas route if he hopes to coach in the pros again, as he did over short stints with the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics.
