Riley Leonard finds Jaden Greathouse for 54-yard score to tie Penn State
Riley Leonard and Jaden Greathouse just connected on a huge play in the Orange Bowl.
With under 5 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, the Irish were trailing the Nittany Lions by a score of 24-17. Faced with a 2nd & 8 from just behind midfield, and needing a score to tie the game, Leonard found a wide-open Greathouse down the field. Greathouse was all alone and juked one Penn State defensive back on his way to the end zone for a 54-yard score.
It was the biggest play of the game and possibly the season for the Irish. Before this play, the only scores for the Irish came on the ground. The score was just Greathouse’s 2nd of the season. Greathouse now has 95 yards on the night, which is his highest yardage total of the season.
It was a clutch throw from Leonard who had been having a rough night. The QB has thrown 2 INTs and went to the medical tent just before halftime to be evaluated for a head injury. the Notre Dame offensive line has also had 2 starters go down with injury. Still, Leonard stood strong in the pocket and delivered a strike down the field to keep his team in the game.
On the Nittany Lions’ drive following the score, the Irish defense forced a 3-and-out. With just under 2 minutes to play, the Irish are driving and trying to reach FG range for a possible game-winning score.
The winner of this game will play the winner of Ohio State-Texas for the national championship.
