Robert Griffin III names his top 5 Heisman front runners entering Week 4

We’re 3 weeks into the college football season and there’s already a ton of players that are making a claim for the Heisman Trophy. A former winner has listed his top 5 front runners going into this weekend’s slate of games.
Robert Griffin III has Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor at the top, followed by Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, a pair of Miami players in quarterback Darian Mensah and wide receiver Malachi Toney, and capped off with Duke running back Nate Sheppard.
Taylor is a major reason why Mississippi State has now entered the AP poll. The dual-threat quarterback has passed for 832 and 11 touchdowns while averaging 6.6 yards per carry and adding a score on the ground.
Meanwhile, it would definitely be fun to see a rematch in the College Football Playoff between Miami and Ole Miss with the 3 stars on Griffin III’s list. Especially now that the highly efficient Mensah (94.5 QBR) has replaced Carson Beck. Toney (5 receiving touchdowns) is 1 of the most electric players in college football. Chambliss (924 passing yards) has taken his game to an even higher level with the benefit of his first full offseason as Ole Miss’ quarterback.
Sheppard (528 yards, 5 touchdowns) is already nearly halfway to his freshman totals from last season. If Sheppard maintains this pace, reigning ACC champion Duke should eventually climb into the polls and be a conference contender once again.
All 5 of these standouts will be in action on Saturday. Mississippi State hosts Missouri in a top-25 showdown (7:45 p.m. ET/SEC Network). Ole Miss heads to Florida in another top-25 clash (3:30 p.m./ABC). Miami hosts Central Michigan (6:30 p.m./CW).
